Erich is the owner of NOVA Music Center, which has been voted a “Top 100” music store by the National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) four times. NOVA Music Center opened in 2010, moved to Manassas in 2012, and was recognized by NAMM as a “Best Emerging Dealer” of 2012. Erich is also a member of The National Association of Professional Band Instrument Repair Technicians, Inc. (NAPBIRT). Erich has a certificate in guitar performance from Guitar Institute of Technology, a B.S. in Management Technology from Charter Oak State College and is a certified Project Management Professional (PMP).
Erich’s music store experience started at Music and Arts Center in the 1980s, which is where he first learned about band and orchestra instrument sales and repair. As a well-rounded music professional, he has taught group and private lessons in piano, music theory, and guitar. He even does a show for small kids where he shows them how to make clarinets and trumpets out of vegetables! He has also toured as a professional musician and worked as recording engineer.
Erich has repaired violin and other fretless string instruments; woodwind instruments such as clarinets, saxophone, flute; brass instruments including trumpet, trombone and horn; and fretted instruments such as acoustic and electric guitar, ukulele, banjo and others. Erich attended a NAPBIRT repair workshop in 2011.
Erich studied guitar and jazz piano with private instructors. He studied guitar, xylophone, drums, trumpet and french horn in college. Erich studied clarinet, bass clarinet and saxophone in high school, and continues to play the clarinet. Erich’s love is composition and music theory. He was in the first advanced training class for Sound Engineering at Omega Recording Studios where he also worked as an engineer in the early 1980s. He also has a background in computer programming and program management.
Erich has studied guitar with Keith Wyatt, Jennifer Batten, Steve Trovato, Norman Brown, Russ Parrish, Nick Nolan, Dan Gilbert, Scott Henderson, Tommy Tedesco, Robben Ford and Bob Knezevic.
Erich has had his music heard on Radio, TV and in Movies. He has played in rock, roots rock, Cajun, swing, Mariachi, cabaret, world bands and even in a Turkish orchestra.
Julie is a long-time musician since her father taught her to play “Mary Had a Little Lamb” on the piano at the tender age of 3. She took piano lessons by 8 and branched into singing afterwards. She studied vocal performance in high school and at George Mason University. In 2000, she added Folk Harp to her musical repertoire. Julie enjoys playing for retirement homes and accompanying NOVA music students for their performances. She loves working at NOVA Music Center because of the positive influence it brings to the community through music education and enrichment. She always enjoys interacting with the staff, teachers, and customers at the store. She and her husband of 27 years have homeschooled their 3 boys. In her free time she enjoys yoga, sewing, and cooking.
Alex Steadman plays guitar, electric bass, piano, and ukulele, and has played his main instrument, the guitar, for 11 years. Prior to working at the NOVA Music Center, he has shopped here for several years and enjoyed the friendly staff. He is a gear nerd and likes helping people find their sound. He studies jazz music at George Mason University and he enjoys playing in his band, Epitrope, and arranging jazz charts for his combo he’s in at GMU.
Cello, drums and ukulele
