Erich RussekRobbins - Owner

Erich is the owner of NOVA Music Center, which has been voted a “Top 100” music store by the National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) four times. NOVA Music Center opened in 2010, moved to Manassas in 2012, and was recognized by NAMM as a “Best Emerging Dealer” of 2012.  Erich is also a member of The National Association of Professional Band Instrument Repair Technicians, Inc. (NAPBIRT).  Erich has a certificate in guitar performance from Guitar Institute of Technology, a B.S. in Management Technology from Charter Oak State College and is a certified Project Management Professional (PMP).

Erich’s music store experience started at Music and Arts Center in the 1980s, which is where he first learned about band and orchestra instrument sales and repair. As a well-rounded music professional, he has taught group and private lessons in piano, music theory, and guitar. He even does a show for small kids where he shows them how to make clarinets and trumpets out of vegetables! He has also toured as a professional musician and worked as recording engineer.

Erich has repaired violin and other fretless string instruments; woodwind instruments such as clarinets, saxophone, flute; brass instruments including trumpet, trombone and horn; and fretted instruments such as acoustic and electric guitar, ukulele, banjo and others.  Erich attended a NAPBIRT repair workshop in 2011.

Erich studied guitar and jazz piano with private instructors.  He studied guitar, xylophone, drums, trumpet and french horn in college. Erich studied clarinet, bass clarinet and saxophone in high school, and continues to play the clarinet.  Erich’s love is composition and music theory. He was in the first advanced training class for Sound Engineering at Omega Recording Studios where he also worked as an engineer in the early 1980s. He also has a background in computer programming and program management.

Erich has studied guitar with Keith Wyatt, Jennifer Batten, Steve Trovato, Norman Brown, Russ Parrish, Nick Nolan, Dan Gilbert, Scott Henderson, Tommy Tedesco, Robben Ford and Bob Knezevic.

Erich has had his music heard on Radio, TV and in Movies. He has played in rock, roots rock, Cajun, swing, Mariachi, cabaret, world bands and even in a Turkish orchestra.


Julie Villavicencio - Manager

Julie is a long-time musician since her father taught her to play “Mary Had a Little Lamb” on the piano at the tender age of 3. She took piano lessons by 8 and branched into singing afterwards. She studied vocal performance in high school and at George Mason University. In 2000, she added Folk Harp to her musical repertoire. Julie enjoys playing for retirement homes and accompanying NOVA music students for their performances. She loves working at NOVA Music Center because of the positive influence it brings to the community through music education and enrichment. She always enjoys interacting with the staff, teachers, and customers at the store. She and her husband of 27 years have homeschooled their 3 boys. In her free time she enjoys yoga, sewing, and cooking.

Alex Steadman - Sales

Alex Steadman plays guitar, electric bass, piano, and ukulele, and has played his main instrument, the guitar, for 11 years. Prior to working at the NOVA Music Center, he has shopped here for several years and enjoyed the friendly staff. He is a gear nerd and likes helping people find their sound. He studies jazz music at George Mason University and he enjoys playing in his band, Epitrope, and arranging jazz charts for his combo he’s in at GMU.

Alex Villavicencio - Sales

Alex is a student at VCU pursuing computer science with a minor in math. His main instrument is the C-flute, which he played with the Woodbridge Flute Choir and YOPW, amongst other groups and scholarship competitions. He is a self-taught guitar player and has been working in sales since late 2014, as well as working on guitars since May of 2015.

Bryan Dicks - Sales

Bryan Dicks has been working at Nova Music Center since August of 2017. He likes the atmosphere of the store and helping customers find their dream instruments. He has been playing the guitar since 2003 and is currently pursuing his Music Performance Degree through Nova Community College. Bryan spends most of his time practicing and performing with his band, Twice the Size of Harold, and playing with jazz combos from Nova.

Nelson Lanzas - Social Media Expert

Nelson Lanzas is a NOVA native but proud of his Nicaraguense heritage. As a young child, he would sing his heart out to nearly every musical on tv and film. His love for music pushed him to become a choir student from 4th grade up to his senior year at Centreville HS. Having studied Public Relations and Psychology at George Mason University, his ultimate dream is to work Public Relations in the music and entertainment for big-name celebrities. Preferably, he’d work for his favorite musicians, Beyoncé and Rihanna. When he isn’t working two jobs, he is found at the gym, movies, or just hanging with his family. Nelson enjoys working at NOVA Music Center because it combines his personal and career aspirations with a fun group of co-workers.

Sofia is a NOVA student studying to become a veterinary technician. Although her future career revolves around animals she has always been interested in music. Her interest in music started in elementary school when she first joined orchestra and studied violin through high school, she also studies guitar and ukulele.
